Welcome to Parkersburg Catholic Schools!

As principal, it is my honor and privilege to welcome all to our school. Here at Parkersburg Catholic Schools (PCS) our mission is “To bring people closer to Christ, Parkersburg Catholic Schools fosters relationships with family, community and all people through service, education excellence and faith formation.” Our school community – family – aims to achieve our mission by empowering our students with knowledge and transforming by faith. Throughout our campuses and classrooms our beliefs and values are present.

We believe:

  • Growing and practicing our Catholic faith enables us to provide the best educational environment for students.
  • Curriculum, that integrates faith, family culture and life is critically needed to educate the whole child.
  • Stewardship is the sharing of one’s time, talent, treasure and hospitality that enables PCS to live our mission.
  • Christ is at the center of each school day through our commitment to Mass, prayer, academics, service and extra-curricular activities.
  • By holding each student to the highest expectations, they are well prepared to succeed in college and in life.
  • Hiring and retaining highly qualified staff members dedicated to the vocation of Catholic education is critical to the success of our students.
  • Fostering an environment in which families, students and staff members encourage and support one another
  • Engaging and innovative instruction empowers each student to reach his/her full potential

Parkersburg Catholic Schools has a 150-year history in the Mid-Ohio Valley of providing innovative and exemplary education for the whole child. PCS proudly continues this legacy by developing leaders academically, athletically, socially, morally and spiritually. All our graduates enter college, the military, or post-high school career programs. PCS provides an academic program to meet the needs of exceptional, gifted and talented and rigorous programming. All with a small teacher to student ratio. Our Catholic faith, service-centered activities, and extra-curricular clubs also provide opportunities for leadership and spiritual development. Our athletic programs are well-known for developing all students interested in participating. We have a long history of championship teams in multiple sports.

However, as the proud principal of Crusader Country, I am most proud of the daily life our teachers, staff and students create by living our beliefs and mission. It’s something like no other school!

I invite you to visit our campuses and experience a moment in our Crusader Life.

Welcome to Crusader country!

Mrs. Mary Caren “M.C.” Heffner Principal

Mrs. Mary Caren “M.C.” Heffner
Advocating for Student and Schools Mary Caren, “M.C.” Heffner is a veteran educator with over 20 years of experience in education. She started her vocation in 1993 in Ohio in the Cincinnati Archdiocese teaching English Language arts (ELA), math, and Religion. Her adventures led her from Ohio to the San Francisco Bay area. There she taught middle school students math, ELA, and Religion in the Oakland Diocese.

A proposal by her college sweetheart, Chris Heffner, moved M.C. back to Ohio, quickly returning to her former parish, St. Elizabeth’s. She took a five year leave from education to enter the IT world as a programmer at Wendy’s International programming the first touch screen systems for Tim Horton’s. She quickly moved up to Mainframe Supervisor at Abercrombie & Fitch’s corporate offices. Continuing to pursue new challenges, she became the Executive Assistant to the CFO for Ricart Automotive in Columbus developing accounting and financial knowledge. These experiences still affect her approach to leadership and educational advocacy.

In 2001, M.C. and Chris welcomed their first born, Luke. After his birth, she felt called to return to the classroom. She joined the faculty at Our Lady of Peace in the Columbus Diocese to teach math and Religion to middle schoolers.

The Heffners decided to move to Florida in 2003. At that time, M.C. made the move to public schools in Charlotte County. During her tenure with Charlotte County she earned both a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and an Education Specialists degree in Educational Leadership. She advocated for students and education as a team leader founding a gifted program at a middle school; a drop-out prevention program for at-risk, overaged middle school students; an industry-certification program for Microsoft Office Specialists at the middle school level, and re-inventing the student leadership team at the elementary level. In Charlotte County she has taught 3rd graders thru 9th grade Algebra 1.

M.C.’s passion for her vocation is rooted deeply in her Catholic Faith. The Heffner’s, now Chris, M.C., and Emily, are active members of St. Francis Xavier parish in Parkersburg. Luke is now a sailor in the U.S. Navy, training for Master at Arms. Throughout her life as a Catholic, she has volunteered for Vacation Bible School, the choir, Emmaus, and, of course as a Faith Formation teacher. As M.C. says, “Sharing the love of God and education is my vocation. It’s never my job.”
